New arcade bar with street food opening soon in Vancouver

The Greta Burger is one of the menu items offered at the Alberta-based arcade bar and restaurant that will open a third location in Vancouver’s Gastown.

A new bar and restaurant with arcade games is gearing up to launch this spring in Vancouver.

Called Greta, the venture hails from neighbouring Alberta, where they operate a location each in Calgary and Edmonton.

Greta will offer its food, drinks, and entertainment at 50 West Cordova Street in the space that was previously The Bourbon, a venue with a long history and multiple identities since 1937. The Bourbon has been “a strip club, a biker bar, a live venue,” and was also “Vancouver’s first country bar.” The club was last operational at the start of 2020 when The Bourbon played hip-hop, rap, and Top 40 music.

“It’s all fun and games at your favourite arcade bar,” boasts Greta’s slogan. To that end, Greta offers dozens of games with play accessed by a re-loadable card. We don’t know yet what will be up and running in Vancouver, however Greta’s Alberta outposts have arcade classics like Pac-Man, Frogger, and Street Fighter.

The food at Greta focuses on shareable plates and hand-held dishes with locally-sourced ingredients and a globally-inspired flavour profile. Look for things like meatball skewers, Korean noodle boxes, burgers, hot dogs, bao buns, and loaded fries.

From the bar, you’ll be able to order up house cocktails, wine, and beer, and Greta offers several weekly specials on food and drink.

Greta’s Vancouver location is currently in the hiring stages, but they are aiming to open this spring. Follow @gretabaryvr on Instagram for updates.
