These are the top in-demand destinations for Canadian travellers

Are you planning on a quick getaway?

A travel search engine has released the top destinations Canadians are headed to over Victoria Day weekend with tips for travellers looking to get the most bang for their buck.

Laura Lindsay, Global Travel Trends and Destinations Expert at Skyscanner, says folks travelling on a “mini break” should maximize time on trips by using the departure times/arrivals time filter on travel platforms.

“Find the fastest flights to your chosen vacation spot by filtering the results via journey duration so you can see which flights will get you there the fastest,” she advised.

Alternatively, travellers can keep their options open to find a better price and perhaps discover a new favourite destination.

Using Skyscanner’s “Everywhere” search option, locals can find a host of “tempting destinations, ordered by cheapest first.”

To find an airport near you, the “nearest airport” filter will find the cheaper deals that may be located at an alternative airport near you or in the destination that you’re travelling to.

Be smart with your holiday allowance: “Time off is precious, so a great hack is to tag days onto federal holidays to stretch out your break. Look up where the remainder of the public holidays fall this year, then search for flights on either side of those dates. ‘Month view’ finds the cheapest day to travel to your chosen destination highlighted by colour,” Lindsay advises.

Finally, if possible, Skyscanner advises travellers to pack light using a carry-on bag. This allows them to avoid paying extra fees or waiting at baggage reclaim.

“It’s as simple as walking off the plane and heading out on holiday, hassle-free.”
