Surrey shooting leaves one person dead

One man is dead after a shooting in Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood.

The RCMP says officers were called to an alleyway in the area of 96 Avenue and 130 Street just after 5 p.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, they found a man in the driver’s seat of a white Ford Edge SUV. The person was unresponsive and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say a burnt-out vehicle was found a short time later in the area of 151A Street and 82 Avenue. It’s unclear at this time whether this is connected to the shooting.

There is currently no suspect description. Police say they are now looking for any witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in.

Anyone with information who has not yet spoken with investigators is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
