Surrey missing woman victim of ‘foul play,’ IHIT takes over investigation

The Lower Mainland’s homicide team says it has taken over an investigation that was initially thought to be a missing person case after evidence was found that she may have been a “victim of foul play.”

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says on Feb. 23, 28-year-old Navdeep Kaur was reported missing by her family to the Surrey RCMP.

IHIT says after the Mounties found evidence that Kaur may have been killed, the team took over the case.

“IHIT … will be working closely in partnership with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, and the BC Coroners Service to advance the investigation,” the team said in a statement Thursday.

According to police, Kaur was last seen on Feb. 22 at 10:30 p.m. on 123 Street near 78 Avenue in the city’s Strawberry Hill neighbourhood.

Police describe Kaur as South Asian, around 5’5″ tall, with long black hair and brown eyes.

“Investigators are working to learn as much as possible about Navdeep, and her movements leading up to her disappearance on February 22,” said Corp. Esther Tupper.

“We’re asking anyone who has had recent contact with Navdeep, or anyone with information, to please call IHIT immediately.”

The IHIT Information Line can be contacted at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
