IHIT investigating targeted fatal Burnaby shooting

The Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Team (IHIT) is on scene near Metrotown early Wednesday morning after a fatal shooting in the area.

The Burnaby RCMP says that just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers received reports of shots fired near Kingsway and Denbigh Avenue.

“When police arrived, they located a man suffering from serious gun shot wounds. Police and first responders attempted life-saving measures, however, the man was pronounced dead on scene a short time later,” Corp. Mike Kalanj said in a statement Wednesday.

Footage from the scene near Kingsway and Denbigh Avenue shows a Jaguar vehicle with several bullet holes in it, including the driver’s side door and window.

A white tarp and pop-up tent can be seen at the site of the shooting, as a heavy police presence flanks the area.

Mounties say they believe the shooting was targeted, and there is no further risk to the public.

Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting, or anyone who may have dashcam footage in the area between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-557-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
