Early summer heat continued to rewrite the record books across B.C. Monday.
Daily maximum temperatures were set in 13 communities, with the hottest among them being in the Squamish area, where the mercury climbed to 33.1 C, shattering the previous June 22 record of 30 C set in 1990.
Among the oldest records broken was in the Esquimalt area, where temperatures reached 27 C, surpassing the previous mark of 25 C set in 1961. The Victoria Gonzales Point area also broke a record dating back to 1961 and shares the same period of recordkeeping.
The full set of new records is as follows:
Abbotsford: 32.4 C, breaking the previous record of 31.7 C set in 1958.
Bella Bella: 24.3 C, breaking the previous record of 23.5 C set in 2004.
Duncan: 31.8 C, breaking the previous record of 31.1 C set in 1936.
Esquimalt: 27 C, breaking the previous record of 25 C set in 1961.
Pitt Meadows: 31.6 C, breaking the previous record of 31 C set in 1992.
Port Hardy: 22.8 C, breaking the previous record of 21.6 C set in 2014.
Qualicum Beach: 29.9 C, breaking the previous record of 29.0 C set in 1992.
Sechelt: 29.1 C, breaking the previous record of 28.9 C set in 1958.
Squamish: 33.1 C, breaking the previous record of 30 C set in 1990.
Victoria Gonzales Point: 27 C, breaking the previous record of 25 C set in 1961.
Victoria: 30.9 C, breaking the previous record of 28.9 C set in 1936.
West Vancouver: 30.6 C, breaking the previous record of 29 C set in 1992.
White Rock: 31 C, breaking the previous record of 28.3 C set in 1936.Meanwhile, the Agassiz area tied its June 22 record of 32.2 C, matching the mark set in 1958.
