Good Friday ‘outstanding’ as Easter long weekend brings sun before cloud and cooler weather

The Easter long weekend probably won’t be filled with lots of “shorts weather” this year for much of B.C.’s South Coast.

Thursday and Friday will see the warmest temperatures in the region before a cooler band of weather moves in, 1130 meteorologist Michael Kuss explains.

In Metro Vancouver, highs of between 14 and 19 degrees will be felt on Thursday, with the temperatures rising again on Friday to a maximum of 20 degrees inland.

For folks heading out of the Lower Mainland, it’s a bit of a mixed bag depending on where youre headed.

“What a fantastic getaway day if you’re heading over to the Island. Should be outstanding if you can get on a ferry,” Kuss said Thursday. “It’s all sun today. Temperatures in the mid to upper teens and around the capital region as warm as 19 or 20 degrees on Friday, under the sun.”

Kuss adds there’s a “small chance” of showers on Saturday for southern Vancouver Island.

“The big story will be cooler temperatures, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 13 to 15 degrees maximum and generally a mix of sun and cloud.”

Meanwhile, for those heading up the Sea to Sky, it’s going to be cool through the overnights in Whistler and Squamish, with at least some flurries on the mountain peaks.

“Village temperatures are barely creeping into the double digits — 10, 11, 12 degrees maximum from Saturday through Monday, with a chance for a few pop up showers,” Kuss explained.

“Good Friday looks outstanding, the best of the bunch. Mid-teens for a daytime high under full sun, and beautiful today, as well.”

As for those heading to the Interior, Kuss says a cold front will sweep through the Thompson-Okanagan on Saturday, bringing cloud and a good chance for showers.

“But that is going to be bookended by gorgeous conditions Thursday, Friday — as warm as 20, 21 degrees in the Okanagan Valley and around Kamloops as well,” he said.

“In the wake of the cold front, after Saturday through Sunday and Monday, the sun will come back out, but it’s going to be cooler, just 12 or 13 degrees on Sunday, and a mix of sun and cloud for Monday and up to 15 degrees.”

Sunset for the weekend is after 8 p.m. for southern B.C.
