The West Coast Express temporarily stopped Tuesday morning due to a truck driver colliding with a train in Port Moody.
The crash happened around 7:20 a.m. near Reed Point Way.
The Port Moody Police Department says the driver of a pickup truck is believed to have advanced around a railway crossing arm before the collision.
“There’s a small crossing there at Reed Point Marina — leads off the Barnet Highway. There are signal arms, as well as signal lights that illuminate when trains are crossing… my understanding is that the the motorist failed to yield to those signal arms that had been down and went around the crossing,” Const. Sam Zacharias told 1130 News Radio.
He says the truck appears to have spun into a nearby ditch on collision and the driver, ejected from the vehicle, sustained “significant” but “non-life-threatening” injuries.
Zacharias says it’s too early to tell if intoxication was a factor in the crash.
He says police collected several witness testimonies on scene, but the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information to share is asked to come forward.
TransLink says trains have resumed and no customers on board were injured.
Zacharias says more trains may be delayed Tuesday as responding crews remove the truck.
