Teresa Wat has quit the B.C. Conservatives and will sit as an Independent, saying she can no longer serve under leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay.
Wat says Findlay failed to apologize over “serious and unfounded accusations” Findlay reportedly made about her that questioned her allegiance to Canada and were distasteful and hurtful.
Wat’s statement announcing her departure from the party cites widely reported remarks attributed to Findlay that called Wat “CCP,” a reference to the Chinese Communist Party.
Wat is the third MLA to exit the official opposition in as many days.
Rosalyn Bird left on Tuesday, a day after Ian Paton, while Peter Milobar left earlier this month.
Wat says Findlay told her this week there would be an apology, but none has been issued, so she cannot be led by someone who has questioned her loyalty.
