Surrey teen stabbed and killed near Robson Square in downtown Vancouver

Vancouver police are investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy from Surrey, who was stabbed late Saturday night near Robson Square. Kristen Robinson reports.

A 15-year-old boy was stabbed and killed near Robson Square in downtown Vancouver on Saturday night.

A large area of Robson Square in downtown Vancouver was behind police tape on Sunday, but police were not releasing any information.

Evidence markers and debris could also be seen around the square.

No arrests have been made at this time, police confirmed.

“Vancouver police investigators have been working non-stop to secure evidence, identify witnesses, and find the person, or people, responsible for this murder,” Sgt. Steve Addison said in a release. “There may be people in the community who have knowledge or information that will solve this crime, and we’re asking them to come forward.”

Investigators believe the victim, a Surrey resident, was stabbed shortly before 11:40 p.m. on Saturday, near the Vancouver Law Courts at Smithe and Howe Street.

A passerby called 911, and police found the injured boy on Howe Street.

Police officers and other first responders provided emergency first aid; however, the victim died in the hospital early Sunday morning, police confirmed.

His name is not being released at this time. Vancouver police also believe the teen was not attending the Celebration of Light fireworks that had taken place earlier in the evening.

Investigators from VPD’s Operations Division, Forensic Identification Unit, and Major Crime Section have been working to collect evidence from the crime scene, to learn more about what led up to the murder, and to identify anyone responsible.

Anyone with information, or anyone with dashcam footage in the area bounded by Georgia Street (north), Smithe Street (south), Howe Street (east), and Hornby Street (west) between 11:30 and 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, is asked to call the Vancouver Police Homicide tip line at 604-717-2500.
