Environment Canada is warning of some blustery weather that’s on its way for Metro Vancouver, as a special weather statement due to strong winds has been issued for much of Metro Vancouver.
Strong northwest winds are expected to start late Tuesday afternoon and continue through the night.
“A cold front will sweep across the south coast on Tuesday and strong northwest winds with gusts up to 70 km/h are forecast in its wake. These winds will develop late Tuesday afternoon, continue through Tuesday night then begin to ease early Wednesday morning,” the statement reads.
Potentially impacted areas include Vancouver, West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Richmond, Delta, Burnaby, and New Westminster.
CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss says the high winds could impact some BC Ferries sailings Tuesday.
“I would say no earlier than 5 p.m. sailings, but likely seven and later, that’s when the winds are really going to ramp up,” he said. “The window we’re talking about, on a broad spectrum, for those winds will be two to 10 p.m., where we’ll see winds at 30 to 60 kilometers per hour and potentially some gusts punching up to 70.”
The further inland, the winds won’t be as strong, Kuss explains, saying the winds will be sustained at about 40 km/h.
