‘She started crying’: Vancouver couple win $1 million playing Lotto Max

Imagine taking a million-dollar stroll?

Imelda and Ruben P. were on a routine stroll around the mall before learning they won $1 million from the Jan. 9, 2026, Lotto Max draw.

“We were at Metrotown when we first scanned the ticket,” recalls Imelda. “We were both just so happy!”

The couple’s daughter was first to hear the news.

“We sat down to take a break, and then we saw our daughter walking by. Ruben whispered to her, ‘We won the lottery!’ Then she started crying,” Imelda says.

The Vancouver residents want to help their family with the winnings. But they aren’t sure what they’ll do with all the cash.

How does it feel to win?

“We are really happy!” Ruben says.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart in Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby.
