Police investigating after man’s body found on HWY 1 in Burnaby; eastbound lanes remain closed

The Burnaby RCMP says it is investigating after a man’s body was found lying in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 just east of Kensington Monday morning.

Officers were called to the area shortly before 6 a.m.

“The male was obviously deceased and had injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle,” Mounties said in a statement.

Police say they closed all eastbound lanes to make sure important evidence was preserved. They say it is possible the man was killed by a vehicle that then left the scene.

BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) Sgt. Michael McLaughlin says officers are investigating all possibilities.

“It’s crucial that we speak to anyone who saw anything unusual on Highway 1 near Kensington between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. this morning,” McLaughlin said.

Anyone with dash cam video from the area near Kensington in the minutes leading up to the body being found is asked to call the BCHP (604-526-9744) immediately, even if the video doesn’t show the collision itself. Officers say they are looking to review footage to see if there is any important information visible in the background.
