Millennials most likely to get rid of their cars due to cost of living crunch: car share
While the majority of Canadians still believe it would be impossible for them to not own a car, a new survey finds many people in B.C. are either planning to ditch their rides or not get one at all due to the cost of living crisis.
According to car share Turo, one in 10 people in British Columbia say they’re planning to stop owning or leasing their car in the future, with many of them citing financial reasons behind their decision to do so.
The research says nearly half of people in B.C. polled were less likely to buy or lease a car this year because of inflation rates.
According to Turo, millennials are the most likely to get rid of their vehicle in the future.
Turo explains “having a car is too expensive” was the number one reason for those who reported not having a car right now.
For those who do have a car more than 80 per cent say it sits idle most of the time.
Despite all this, Turo says more than seven in 10 respondents who have a car say it would be impossible not to have one, with more than half adding they’d likely have to change jobs if they didn’t have wheels.
