Carrie Anne Fleming was 51 and had been suffering from breast cancer.
Carrie Anne Fleming, an actor with roots in Victoria who gained fame for her roles on the cult TV series Supernatural and iZombie, has died.
She was 51 and had been suffering from breast cancer. Her sudden death on Feb. 26 was first reported by actor Jim Beaver, who played her on-screen husband for three episodes of Supernatural.
“She was a powerhouse of vitality and goodwill and amazingly good nature, with a rapturous laugh and an utterly adorable personality that didn’t seem to have an off switch,” Beaver wrote on Facebook. “I was so in love I think my eyes turned silver.”
Fleming, who was born in Digby, Nova Scotia, spent the majority of her life in and around Vancouver Island, settling in recent years on Salt Spring Island.
She attended several schools during her time in Victoria, including Mount Doug Secondary, where her interest in acting took off.
She appeared in productions by Kaleidoscope Theatre and Kidco Theatre Dance Company before making the switch to feature films.
Her first big-screen role was in Happy Gilmore, the Adam Sandler comedy from 1996, with another notable film appearance in 2007’s Good Luck Chuck.
She spent the majority of her career in television before stepping away from full-time acting in 2019, following the last episode in her 12-episode arc on iZombie. Her last screen appearance was in the 2o25 short film The Trip.
Fleming was represented by Vancouver’s Integral Artists, which celebrated the actor with a social media post on Sunday.
“Despite our short time together, we have come to know Carrie as a force of nature. Her positivity, sense of humor, and calm disposition humbled us. We are so grateful to have known her,” the post said. “She will be missed immensely.”
