HERE’S WHEN CHERRY BLOSSOMS WILL REACH PEAK BLOOM IN METRO VANCOUVER THIS YEAR

These flowers do have a peak blooming time.

here are approximately 43,000 cherry blossom trees in Metro Vancouver. On average, each tree blossoms for about 2 weeks long.

There are about 57 different varieties, each with a slightly different peak bloom.

This year’s peak bloom will take place later than usual, from April 17 to the 20th.

Cherry Blossom species and the best time for viewing:

  • The Whitcomb variety usually starts first between March 8 and March 28.
  • Most early cultivars bloom first in mid to late March, such as the popular light pink Akebono.
  • The darker pink, Kanzan, blooms a couple weeks later in April (17 – 20th)
  • The latest blooms of Shogetsu bloom between April 23 – May 6 and are rigid white petals.
