Defeated BC Conservative candidate claims new evidence

A former BC Conservative candidate claims he has new evidence as he continues to challenge the results in the Surrey riding in which he was defeated in last fall’s provincial election.

Honveer Singh Randhawa says he has a significant update in the petition he’s filed with the BC Supreme Court.

Randhawa is describing it as “newly obtained evidence and admissions” by Elections BC regarding voting irregularities and misconduct in Surrey-Guildford, the riding he lost by just 22 votes to the NDP’s Gary Begg last October.

Randhawa filed an amended petition to the BC Supreme Court on Monday, updating the documents originally filed in January, including claims of 14 non-resident voters and irregularities surrounding 22 mail-in ballots from a residential care home.

Randhawa and his lawyer have scheduled a news conference for 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in downtown Vancouver to provide details about the claimed irregularities and misconduct they allege impacted the election’s outcome in Surrey-Guildford.

The claims have yet to be heard or proven in court.

Elections BC suspended its review of Randhawa’s complaints in January until the court challenge is dealt with.
