Despite a federal order to return to work Tuesday morning, unionized employees remain off the job at a Canada Post processing centre near Vancouver International Airport in Richmond.
A picket line is still blocking the entrance, however, it’s not the postal union who’s there.
Being described as a “community” picket line, about a half dozen other unionized groups in the region are showing solidarity.
They say they’re picketing in solidarity with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, and tell CityNews they’re prepared to stay here as long as they can.
A local rep for the postal workers union tells CityNews its workers won’t cross the line, and its workers at YVR have not returned to work.
The federal labour board ordered about 55,000 striking Canada Post employees back to work as of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, after determining that the two sides are at an impasse, bringing a month-long strike to an end.
