Flower shops are packed and the candy shelves are picked over as last minute Valentine’s Day shoppers do battle for dwindling stock, and it seems some are turning to their local convenience store.
But can you find love in those brightly lit aisles?
“Every day can be like Valentine’s Day at 7-Eleven because food is a real love language,” insisted Marc Goodman, the vice president and general manager of 7-Eleven Canada.
If you find yourself scrambling for something special for your significant other this Feb. 14, Goodman suggests you are not alone.
“We sell about three times the amount of chocolate than we’d sell in a typical period,” he told 1130 NewsRadio, adding that they also see a surge in sales related to after-chocolate activities.
“I think something of interest — that you would never really think of 7-Eleven for — is about spicing up your intimacy. We see triple digit increases in sales of condoms and lubricants over Valentine’s Day.”
Once that part of the evening is done, how about capping off a romantic night with a taquito?
Goodman laughed, “You can have some taquitos and pizza slices and chicken as well. Yes.”
Perhaps related, Goodman says the chain also sees a big jump in the sales of mints this time of year, particularly in B.C.
“We also have fresh cut flowers and gift cards,” he added, pointing to a significant increase in 7-Eleven gift cards leading up to Valentine’s Day.
Maybe nothing says love like the gift of taquitos and gas?
“Oh. Well. The gift of convenience is a lovely gift… but maybe gas isn’t the most romantic,” Goodman chuckled.
