6 whimsical book stores, cafes, lounges around Metro Vancouver

New and used, neat and messy, these nooks are a book lover’s paradise.

Any bookworms in Vancouver?

Whether it be romance, fantasy, non-fiction or a self-help book, sometimes you need a day to get lost in a good book. Even better, find your next read while exploring the most quaint book spaces around town (and beyond, if you’re down for a little getaway).

Wendel’s Bookstore and Cafe

What’s better than finding the perfect read at a huge bookstore? Realizing you’re also in a cafe. A warm drink, maybe even a tasty bite, while getting lost between the pages sounds like a lovely time.

Address: 9233 Glover Rd, Langley

about:blank Bean Around Books Cafe

There’s a certain type of comfort that can only be found when reading a good book submerged in the cozy yet busy atmosphere of a cafe. This bookstore cafe is also a non-profit that helps youth gain work experience as baristas while giving used books a second life.

Address: 22626 Lougheed Hwy., Maple Ridge

Upstart and Crow

This “literary living room” combines bookstore, literary launches and workshops in one. It’s a bookworm haven right here in Vancouver. It’s also so big that there’s a ladder to reach some of the top shelves.

Address: 1387 Railspur Alley, Vancouver

MacLeod’s Books

This self-described antiquarian bookstore is laden with quirky literary gems and riveting reads. It’s far from neat (there are numerous book piles to weave through), but that’s the beauty of it. Be prepared to dig for that perfect book.

Address: 455 W Pender St, Vancouver

The Paper Hound

Books of all ages, genres and rarity are stowed away in this neat brick-and-mortar bookstore. It isn’t difficult to find a great read among the shelves and vintage pulp fiction art.

Address: 344 W Pender St, Vancouver

Canterbury Tales Bookstore

Stacked literally floor to ceiling with secondhand books, perusing the crowded shelves makes for a great rainy day activity. Not to mention the old, mystical feel of the small store that makes visiting worthwhile.
