1 dead after shooting in Burnaby’s Metrotown

Homicide investigators have been called to Burnaby after a deadly shooting Wednesday evening in the Metrotown area.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says Mounties responded to reports of shots fired near McKay Avenue and Kingsborough Street around 6:30 p.m.

“When police arrived on scene, they located a male victim. Despite life-saving efforts, the man did not survive,” IHIT described.

Police later discovered a vehicle on fire nearby, north of Central Park, but are unsure if it was linked to the shooting.

Police still have the parking lot on Kingsborough Street blocked off Thursday morning.

IHIT says investigators believe the shooting was targeted and there is no further risk to the public.
